How did you first get involved with The Child Center, Inc.?
I was substitute teaching in the Francis Howell School District when I had the opportunity to observe one of the Sexual Abuse Prevention Education programs being presented by The Child Center. I was very impressed by the way the Prevention Educator took a topic that had the potential to be uncomfortable, and instead helped the students understand the dynamics of body safety in a very comfortable way. After hearing the program, I knew I wanted to use my voice to help with this mission. Soon after, I called The Child Center to see if they were hiring for the position of Prevention Educator. I was delighted to find out that they were. I applied and was hired. I have had the opportunity to work at The Child Center and see first-hand how this organization is helping not only to prevent child abuse but to heal and give hope to those affected by it. Britt got involved because he truly appreciates the value of this work. He was moved to get involved after realizing just how many lives are touched by child abuse. The statistics are staggering and even more so considering that not all cases are reported.
What do you find most rewarding about your involvement with The Child Center, Inc.?
Having the opportunity to use my voice to help a child find theirs is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Although I no longer work at The Child Center, I continue to support the organization and will forever be committed to their mission. When a family experiences sexual abuse they are often unsure where to turn. It is comforting to know that the dedicated staff at The Child Center is there with compassion and understanding to help guide families through this process and help them heal. The staff is top notch and dear to my heart. I am so thankful they are in our community offering this invaluable service.
