One-Day Workshop to Address Problematic Sexual Behaviors in Children

The Child Center, Inc. will host the Midwest Justice for Children Workshop (MJCW) on April 4, 2018. Thanks, in part, to a generous grant from the Missouri Task Force on Children’s Justice Act, the one-day workshop offers an opportunity for local professionals and caregivers to learn about Responding to Children with Problematic Sexual Behaviors “This is What No One’s Talking About…and Everyone Needs to Know”.

This Workshop began in an effort to provide quality training, at an affordable price, to other Child Advocacy Center staff, Educators: Teachers, Administrators, Counselors; Medical & Mental Health Professionals: Therapists, Pediatricians; MDT Members: Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Child and Family Advocates, Forensic Interviewers, Child Protective Services Staff; Caregivers/Parents/Foster Parents; and Youth Serving Organizations.

Nationally recognized speaker, Jane F. Silovsky, Ph.D. will present at the morning session on “Understanding Typical Sexual Development & Problematic Sexual Behaviors”. The lunch speaker, Jimmy Widdifield, Jr, LPC will speak on the topic of “Origins, Risks, and Protective Factors of Problematic Sexual Behavior of Youth”, and the afternoon session presented by Laura Kaehler, Ph.D. with the University of Missouri – St. Louis is “Hope and Healing: PSB Treatment in Missouri”.

Children demonstrating problematic sexual behavior can be a disconcerting issue that caregivers and providers confront. Often there is confusion about differentiating when a child’s sexual behavior is problematic versus normative and knowing the appropriate response. The MJC Workshop will address the basic components of an assessment for problematic sexual behavior, components of effective treatment, and how multidisciplinary teams can best support families.

The MJC Workshop will be held at the Community Commons at Spencer Road Library located at 427 Spencer Road in St. Peters, Missouri. The cost for one-day registration is $100 per person. CEU, CLE, LCSW, and POST education credits will be offered for purchase, pending approval.

The 2018 Midwest Justice for Children Workshop is proudly sponsored by the St. Charles County Treatment Court. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
